FARMING
The operation now know as Spencer Ranch began its life as an operating cattle property. Established in 1973 the property was used for broad acre farming and citrus trees were planted to later transform the property from a cattle farm into a citrus farm - Early Bird Orchard.
The purchase of Spencer Ranch by the Group in 2007 represents the first, in what we envisage to be, a series of similar acquisitions as part of the Group’s expansion agenda as we continue on delivering exceptional fresh product to both domestic and export markets.
The Early Bird orchard has had a long history of providing premium citrus and some unique varieties of oranges, mandarins, lemons and limes. While distribution sees some of the product remain under the Early Bird brand the majority of fruit is marketed under the Group’s C-lect brand both domestically and internationally.
There are currently 270ha planted with a variety of citrus, when in full production will yield in excess of 13,000 tonnes of citrus fruit. Our focus is on high quality, affordable fresh citrus. with emphasis on tree ripened, sweet tasting, refreshing citrus..
