At Carter & Spencer we take a whole-of-chain approach to trading, starting with exclusive grower arrangements managed by our in-field representatives located throughout Australia. We're a global trader of fresh fruit and vegetables with offices throughout - Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and China. Combined with our extensive customer relationships in retail, wholesale and foodservice arenas and complementing the variety of products available throughout the year.
Seasonal planning, value-adding, promotions and product develop merge to provide suppliers and customers with a complete marketing solution for the fresh produce needs.
Our international trading has operated for over 30 years, we source and supply produce to the United States, New Zealand, Spain, China, Thailand, Peru, Chile, Israel and Mexico.
Import
In 2000, Carter & Spencer presented one of Australia’s largest retail chains with an opportunity to consolidate their imported produce buying through a service provider arrangement. The benefits to the retailer were clear: greater transparency on transactions, fresher product, planned programs and promotions, first to market products and consolidated shipping powers. Fresh Direct Imports services this premium retail account nationally with lines from the United States, China, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, Thailand, and a host of other regions.
Our team’s wealth of experience, international supplier connections and logistics prowess gives our customer a distinct advantage in the imported marketplace. Working with the best suppliers in the world, Fresh Direct Imports has recently begun assisting the rest of the Group’s international customers with even greater buying power to see lines being delivered from the USA direct to our customers in Thailand and China.

The opening of our first international trading office in Bangkok, Thailand in 2005 marked the start of a new level of service, supply chain management and opportunities for those associated with the Group. For customers it means having a dedicated person available to them to ensure shipments are cleared, processed and delivered on time and in premium condition. They can also benefit through the market testing programs we run by trialing new lines in their stores without risky forward planning commitments. It enables them to be first to market and gain an edge on their competitors.
For suppliers, they have the added reassurance of a dedicated channel and team member ensuring their precious cargo is treated carefully and respectfully after such long journeys. It enables instant feedback and market intelligence to be fed though the chain in a timely manner. Maximising market opportunities and testing new products gives suppliers greater reach then ever before.
Following the success of Thailand October 2006 saw the official opening of our China office. Based in Shanghai our team member has relocated from Australia after many years with the Group in a imports role. His arrival at a time when China is beginning to open its trading doors to legitimate horticultural transactions gives Carter & Spencer an edge over other international traders.

Our reach is global, focussing specifically in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and America.
In field representation located in close proximity to the supply source, enables daily contact with growers and buyers promoting valuable information flows and market related feedback maximising opportunities for our growers and customers alike.
The end consumer of a Carter & Spencer supply chain is assured of high quality fresh produce on a constant basis from their preferred supplier, guaranteeing Food Safety with a policy that ensures all suppliers are quality accredited.
We have the ability to import and export a wide selection of globally sourced products through our vast network of suppliers. Each division works closely with our customers to source products to their specifications.
Fresh Direct Imports
Fresh Direct Imports commenced operation in June 2000 as import alliance partner to one of our major customers, servicing 480 stores nationally and developing core competencies in international produce procurement and logistics.
Fresh Direct Imports work closely with our customer to identify supply opportunities, establish key supplier relationships and assume management responsiblity for key supply programs.
Sourcing from around the globe, Fresh Direct Imports has an experienced and professional team with foreign language skills and perishables forwarding experience and expertise in fresh produce procurement.
Benverreen
Benverreen Pty Ltd is a leading pre-packing supplier for fresh fruit and vegetables and is uniquely placed to provide to supermarkets, wholesalers and other retailers.
Bundaberg Packing Facility
The Bundaberg packing facility is another element of the Carter & Spencer strategic plan to vertically integrate the supply chain on key product groups.
Our staff liaise directly with growers and suppliers whose product is packed through our Bundaberg packing facility. A Quality Assurance program is in operation, ensuring all stock received and dispatched achieves the highest standards as set by the Group.
Carter & Spencer Bundaberg packing facility focuses on quality fresh fruit and vegetables. The fresh produce is sorted, graded, packed and often consigned for delivery the same day, ensuring the freshest quality produce for your customers.
Bowen
One of the most important facets of our business is our very strong and extensive supplier relationships, built and maintained through our field representatives living and working in the Bowen region. Our field representative staff are on growers properties daily sourcing the highest quality and freshest products for our customers.
Carter & Spencer's network of growers in North Queensland runs from Mareeba to Bowen, combining these suppliers capabilities under a centralised program managed by Carter & Spencer. Our programs run throughout the year with our system able to store substantial volumes of product to ensure continuity of supply during traditional periods of planting and in case of adverse weather conditions.
We have a multitude of differenet customers including large domestic and international retailers, wholesale agents, food processors, pre-packers and food service companies. We purchase and coordinate exact requirements for our customer base, managing the logistics and paperwork and providing varying levels of marketing support to ensure it meets their specific requirements.
Carter & Spencer Thailand
Future options including the transfer of technologies on supply chain management and other niche areas are available as this valuable market develops further.
Our experienced team in Thailand work closely with key retail chains to supply both domestic and internationally sourced produce to meet their customer requirements. Staff work closely with growers in Thailand to support export programs to other markets.
Carter & Spencer China
The opening of the Group's second international trading office in China in 2006 was another major and pivotal step in defining and cementing the group's focus and commitment to international trading development.
Based on the same model as Thailand, the years of research and study put into both market entry plans have culminated in an entry into the China market following the formalisation of several new protocols for Australian fruits into the northern ports.
The new office and planned distribution centre will ensure importation, exportation and subsequent distribution of fresh produce is streamlined and monitored in a country with very similar geographical difficulties as Australia.
Our expreience team in China work closely with key customers to supply both domestic and internationally sourced produce to meet their requirements. Staff work closely with growers in China to support export programs to other markets on products such as Garlic and Ya Pears.
Our New Zealand office, located in Auckland, commenced operation in September 2007, the Group's third international trading office to open offshore in just three years.
Our dedicated staff member works closely with our Australian Trading Team to source and supply premium products for our customers.
