Cherries are from the Rosaceae family, which includes almonds, peaches, apricots and plums. Cherries differ in colour from bright red to reddish black and contain a hard seed on the inside. There are two common types of cherries, Prunus Avium (sweet) and Prunus Cerasus (sour).
